A Brit in the Smokies: From London's Grey Skies to Tennessee's Dazzling Heights

How, just, HOW, was this my view for 2 weeks!

Oh, blimey! There I was, stuck in another typical bleak London day, dreaming of something more. You know how it is, right? The British weather, always playing tricks on us. But this time, I had a ticket to something grand, something wild, something... American!

So off we went, my sister and I, boarding that British Airways flight, ready to take on a 9-hour journey across the pond. A bit daunting, I must say, but the excitement was bubbling up inside me like a pot of Mum's Sunday roast.

Landing in Nashville at the ungodly hour of 2 am, we found ourselves in a motel that was, well, let's just say it was a place to rest our heads. But who could sleep when adventure was calling?

With the stone fire, to the beautiful chandelier, this place was taking me back in time, letting me breathe in the country air, and I couldn't feel any better.

Come the more civilized hour of 10 am, we hit the road, and oh my, Pigeon Forge, you beauty! I felt an instant connection, not just to the place but to nature itself. The Smoky Mountains, the charming shops, the tempting eateries - it was all so inviting.

And then, up to the Smoky Mountains we went to a lodge that was nothing short of spectacular. All wood, all glam, all American. Sorry, UK, but the USA has us beat on this front! I stood there, taking in the view, feeling a bit like a character in a country song.

I loved how they looked over us, it was something out of a Bond movie, and I loved it

But what was next? Dollywood, of course! The excitement was building, but first, a moment of pure indulgence in the hot tub. Ah, this was life!

So there you have it, the beginning of a journey that took a young Brit from the dreary streets of London to the dazzling heights of Tennessee. And let me tell you, dear reader, this was just the beginning. From Dollywood to the Smokies and everything in between, it was a trip filled with surprises, delights, and a touch of that Southern magic.

Keep scrolling, 'cause this adventure is just getting started, and I can't wait to share every moment with you. Cheers! 🇬🇧🇺🇸🌄

That’s right people, this, was my view as I woke up, now I get the term “Smoky Mountains"

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede: A Rootin' Tootin' Southern Extravaganza!

We were ready, my sister Amy and I, for one of the best country shows we’ve ever seen!

Deep in the heart of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, there's a spectacle that captures the essence of Southern charm and hospitality like no other - Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. As a travel blogger with a penchant for all things delightful, I was eager to see what the Queen of Country had in store. And let me tell you, darlin', I was far from disappointed.

A Show Like No Other

And the artists are so talented!

From the moment you step foot on the grounds, you're transported to a world where the South's rich history and vibrant culture come alive. The Dixie Stampede, co-founded by the legendary Dolly Parton and the Herschend family, has been a beacon of entertainment since 1988. With its roots in Pigeon Forge and branches in Myrtle Beach and Branson, this show has spread its Southern magic far and wide.

The arena is a whirlwind of excitement, with horses galloping, riders performing jaw-dropping stunts, and a competition that'll have you cheering for either the North or the South. And in true Southern fashion, it all culminated in a tie during my visit. But the real fun began when we tried to out-holler a spirited school group from the South. Those young'uns sure knew how to make some noise!

Now I know you guys look at this and think the same as me right, HOW?!

A Feast Fit for a Cowboy

Do I look remotely like a cowgirl? I hope so as this hat cost me so mucchhh!!!

As the action unfolds, you're treated to a delectable four-course meal that embodies the flavors of the South. Imagine sipping on a creamy vegetable soup, biting into a warm, buttery biscuit, and savoring the taste of succulent rotisserie chicken and smoky barbeque pork loin. And just when you think you can't eat another bite, they bring out a scrumptious apple turnover that melts in your mouth. It's a culinary journey that complements the visual feast before your eyes.

On the sunny side, we've got families tellin' tales of how the Stampede swept them off their feet. They're raving 'bout how it had their kiddos all wide-eyed and whoopin' with excitement. Even the pickiest eaters are falling head over boots for the food. There's talk of it not being your average 'rubber chicken', but rather, a deliciously tender and perfectly cooked feast. Heck, one family's teenager declared it as their favorite meal of the trip, and that's sayin' something!

I ate the other food, please dont judge the picture it’s just to show how insane the chicken size was lol

A Mixed Bag of Reviews

I do admit, the outfits are amazing, and every review is valid, definitely see if it’s up for you, as it is a couple of hours!

Alright, y'all, let's rustle up some thoughts on Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede based on the reviews from the good folks who've been there. Now, we've got a mixed bag here, but let's see what the general consensus seems to be.

As for the seating, some folks weren't too pleased with their perch. They reckon the railings obscured their view and interrupted their enjoyment of the show. One reviewer even referred to it as a 'money grab,' feeling that the high cost wasn't justified by the overall experience. And let's not forget about the smell. Some found the top row to be less than pleasant due to the carpet capturing all kinds of odors.

However, with those outfits as a worker, who were incredible by the way, I think it’s worth it, for the free top ups, if nothing else!

But hold your horses, because we've got some folks who reckon it ain't all sunshine and rainbows. They felt the North vs South theme was a bit too much given the current political climate, and they were hankerin' for more horse ridin' and less audience participation. And then there's the food. Now, while many enjoyed the carnivorous delights, the vegetarian option seems to be missing the mark. With boiled veggies and plain black beans, they reckon the Stampede could up its game in this department.

As you can see, I met a princess, couldn’t take her home though

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is more than just entertainment; it's a celebration of the South's rich heritage, a testament to its enduring spirit, and a tribute to the values that bind its people together. It's a place where families come together, where stories are shared, and where the essence of America shines brightly.

So, there you have it. For some, the Stampede was a rollicking good time, while others reckon it's got room for improvement. It seems the show scores high on entertainment but could perhaps work on their vegetarian options and the overall comfort of their seating. But as always, y'all, it's about what you make of it!

And as the show drew to a close, remember to have fun, and reveal in the beauty, that is miss Dolly Parton herself

As I bid adieu to this enchanting place, I'm reminded of the words of Dolly Parton herself: "If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one." The Dixie Stampede is a testament to that spirit of innovation, resilience, and unyielding optimism. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the heart and soul of the South.

A Whirlwind of Wonder: Diving Deep into the Magic of WonderWorks!

It’s so interesting up close, how they have managed to make it look like it was turned upside down, will always impress me!

If you're on the hunt for an out-of-this-world experience in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, then boy, do I have a treat for you! Let's dive into the wacky, whimsical, and downright wonderful world of WonderWorks. Trust me; this is one adventure you won't want to miss.

Picture this: An upside-down building smack in the middle of Pigeon Forge. Yep, you read that right! WonderWorks isn't just your average museum; it's a thrilling blend of education and entertainment, or as the cool kids call it, "edutainment." From the moment you step in, you're transported to a universe where science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) come alive in the most exhilarating ways.

The moment you walk in, it is a different immersive experience, looking up above, and feeling like you’re upside down!

Now, I know what you're thinking. "An upside-down building? How does that even work?" Well, that's the magic of it all! To kickstart your journey, you'll pass through the inversion tunnel, flipping your world right side up. And once you're in, get ready for a rollercoaster of over 100 interactive exhibits that'll leave you both baffled and bedazzled.

Let's talk about highlights. The Artful Wonders section is a treat for the senses. From the mesmerizing Wonder Art Gallery to the quirky Dr. Seuss's Unorthodox Taxidermy, there's a splash of creativity at every turn. And for those with a penchant for play, the Dig It Sandbox and Gear Works are sure to tickle your fancy.

As I climbed the stairs, I felt something in me wanting to explore, the kid in me, already impressed with the outside and in, wanted to see the different zones, up first, weather!

But it's not all fun and games. For the thrill-seekers among us, the Extreme Weather Zone is a must-visit. Ever wanted to feel the force of a Category 1 hurricane? The Hurricane Shack's got you covered. And if you're in the mood for some electrifying action, the Tesla Coil exhibit is a shocking delight.

Now, let's talk about tickets. If you're itching to dive into this wonderland, grab your tickets from the website here! And trust me, it's worth every penny.

I think a lot of people from my age and older, really did grow up on Dr. Seuss, now I know he’s not without controversy, but I can appreciate the artwork and detail!

But, like all adventures, WonderWorks isn't without its quirks. While it's a paradise for the young (and young at heart), some of the exhibits might feel a tad juvenile for the older crowd. And on the day of my visit, a few displays were on the fritz. A bummer, for sure, but hey, nobody's perfect!

Price-wise, while the entry fee might seem a tad steep, the sheer volume of activities on offer does give you a bang for your buck. But a word to the wise: If you're on a tight budget, it might be worth weighing the pros and cons before diving in.

For the art lovers out there, well done, as I had no clue what it was until I took a step back, and looked at this picture!

In wrapping up, WonderWorks is a delightful blend of whimsy and wonder. It's a place where learning meets fun, where curiosity is king, and where every corner holds a new surprise. Sure, it has its hiccups, but the overall experience is one for the books. Whether you're a science buff, an art aficionado, or just someone looking for a good time, WonderWorks is sure to leave you wonderstruck.

So, if you find yourself in Pigeon Forge with a day to spare, give WonderWorks a whirl. It's an experience that'll stick with you long after the day is done. And who knows? You might just leave with a newfound appreciation for the wonders of the world around you. Happy exploring!

As we left, I’ll leave you with this beautiful doggie, made up of lots of different images, zoom in, what picture is above his right eye? Did you spot it?

The Titanic Legacy: A Journey Beyond the Iceberg

You really do look at it and marvel at the makers!

The Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is not just a museum; it's a time capsule that transports visitors back to the early 20th century, to the grandeur and tragedy of the RMS Titanic. Nestled amidst the scenic beauty of Pigeon Forge, this museum stands as a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the tales of those who sailed on the ill-fated ship.

Before stepping into the museum, visitors are handed a unique boarding pass. Each pass bears the name of an actual passenger or crew member who was on the Titanic. One such name is Elsie Bowerman, a first-class passenger and a fervent advocate for women's rights. While the museum experience is designed to be immersive, it's the personal stories like Elsie's that truly resonate, making the history tangible and deeply moving.

I know people mock a lot of American things, but I loved this, it was so intimate with detail and every staff member played the role of someone from 1910’s perfectly.

Grab your tickets here, they do range in price, but I HIGHLY recommend this!

For those considering a visit, the museum offers a range of ticketing options. Adults can gain entry for $35, with a $3 discount for online bookings. Children aged between 5 and 12 are charged $15, while the younger ones can enter for free. For families, a special bundle accommodating 2 adults and up to 4 children is available at $115. Gift cards, perfect for gifting experiences, are available in denominations of $25 and $50. Given the museum's popularity, it's advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Beyond ticketing, the museum offers a unique setting for special occasions. Whether it's renewing wedding vows on the grand staircase, celebrating birthdays, or hosting corporate events, the Titanic Museum provides an ambiance steeped in history and elegance.

I think it's really cool that even the iceberg was on the right side, and making it look as if it’s constantly in water!

The centerpiece of the museum is the Grand Staircase, recreated from the original Harland & Wolff plans. This architectural marvel, with its oak carvings, cherub statue, and a glass dome, epitomizes the luxury of the Titanic era. As visitors explore further, they can walk through hallways, cabins, and even feel the chill of the 28-degree water. Over 400 personal artifacts, some displayed for the first time, offer glimpses into the lives of those aboard.

The tour culminates in the Titanic Memorial Room, where the names of all 2,208 passengers and crew are displayed. It's here that visitors learn the fate of the individual on their boarding pass, connecting them to the past in a profound way.

Whilst you go in and look at the hundreds of artifacts and pieces of history, you can see how the ship would have looked, at night in the ocean

The Titanic's story is one of ambition, luxury, and tragedy. Launched in 1911, it was the epitome of opulence. Yet, its maiden voyage in April 1912 ended in disaster, claiming over 1,500 lives. This tragedy led to significant maritime safety reforms, ensuring that the Titanic's legacy wasn't just one of loss but also of positive change.

The ship's story has been retold in various forms, most notably in James Cameron's 1997 film "Titanic." This cinematic masterpiece, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, brought the Titanic's tale to a new generation, ensuring its place in cultural history.

In conclusion, the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge is more than just a collection of artifacts; it's an emotional journey. It serves as a poignant reminder of human ambition, resilience, and the fragility of life. Whether you're a history buff, a romantic, or simply curious, this museum offers an experience that will stay with you long after you've left its halls. So, if you're ever in Tennessee, make sure to set sail on this historical voyage – a journey beyond the iceberg.

And now. As it lays there, we respect the lost, and shall always remember them.

I don’t know what this is, but the walk with the smokies in the background made it really nice, you can’t really see much, but for the explorers, it was worth it!
Not only are Otters fantastic swimmers, but they are also very protective, and normally remain in groups!

Farewell to the Heart of Dixie: Tennessee, You'll Always Be My Southern Star

I will definitely miss waking up to this stunning view everyday

Well, y'all, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful Volunteer State. From the thrillin' rides at Dollywood to the toe-tappin' beats at Dixie Stampede, Tennessee sure did treat us right. We marveled at the wonders inside WonderWorks, took a step back in time at the Titanic Museum, and let our spirits soar at The Island in Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg, with its rustic charm, felt like a page straight outta a Twilight book. And those caves? Lord have mercy, they were somethin' else!

Have fun at Dollywood, or her water park, or just chill, Pigeon Forge has everything!

The Smoky Mountains whispered tales of old, while the critters at the zoo and the otter sanctuary warmed our hearts. And let's not forget those majestic black bears! Our nights were comforted by the coziest hotels, and our bellies? Well, they were always full with the finest Southern grub this side of the Mississippi.

Me when England actually has the smallest bit of sun

Would I come back? In a heartbeat. But next time, I reckon I'd bring Calum along. There's somethin' 'bout Tennessee that just calls for a bit of romance, don't y'all think? But for those of y'all thinkin' 'bout makin' the trip, I can't recommend it enough. Dive deep into my other articles if you're lookin' for the nitty-gritty details.

Trees and a hot tub? Well absolutely.

Now, as I set my sights on sunny Florida, there's a pang in my heart. Nashville, just a stone's throw away, yet we missed it. Why, oh why, is America so darn big? But as they say, there's always a next time. So, until then, Tennessee, keep playin' that sweet Southern song. I'll be back before the fireflies light up the summer night.

Gatlinburg has loads of cool museums and fun stuff to do!

Y'all take care now, ya hear? And remember, no matter where you roam, there's no place quite like the heart of Dixie. 🎶🌄🤠

And with a Wendys (You guys go LARGE) I felt complete, and ready for my next adventure!

That's all for this post! If you've visited Pigeon Forge and discovered any hidden treasures or have tips to share, I'd be thrilled to hear about them.
